Terence O'Donnell papers [manuscript], 1940-1996.

This collection consists of O'Donnell's correspondence from the 1940s to the mid-1990s. Of particular interest are his letters written during his 14-year residence in Iran. Correspondents include members of his family (Rosemary Freeman, Agnes O'Donnell, Bob O'Donnell, E. J. O'Donnell), friends of his youth, contemporaries from his University of Chicago days, and persons encountered during his visits to countries outside the United States.

Terence O'Donnell was born in Portland, Oregon in 1924. He received his Ph.D from the University of Chicago in 1950. He studied modern history at Trinity College in Dublin from 1954 to 1956. After a year of work in Germany, he lived in Iran for 14 years. Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz were the centers of his employment as an English teacher, Fulbright lecturer, Peace Corps instructor and farmer.
